    It’s amazing some of the things you see on television these days. While watching the other day, I saw another one of those “without sports” commercials and it made me think twice about that statement.

    Even though it was a mere advertisement, there is so much truth behind it.

    If sports didn’t exist, where exactly would this world be today? That thought alone can certainly boggle the mind.

    Sports have so much importance in our lives. Granted, there are many exceptions because everyone is different, but for the majority, it plays a key role.

    

    Look back on the NCAA tournament every year. Bracket pools become the most popular craze during the time, regardless if they are in a major business or high school. Some people get so wrapped up in the tournament that they don’t miss a game. Some even take the tournament so far that it is basically a religion. It’s amazing.

    

    When at a game, look around and you will always find extreme fans with their face or entire body painted, screaming until their vocal cords shred. I am one of them. You can find me at almost any Milwaukee sporting event decked out in fan gear, shown on the scoreboard screen dancing around.

    You also have to consider playing sports, as well. The overall objective of sports can sound foolish, such as putting a ball through a hoop or slicing a puck into a net, but it sure does give you the craziest adrenaline rush when you do these things.

    

    Sports do so much for us, and sometimes you just have to sit back and cherish it. Of course, friends may turn against each other in a heated game of backyard football, but when it’s all over, everyone is still friends. People will kill themselves to be better at a sport, even if they have no future in it. It is unbelievable, and yet, so fulfilling.

    What exactly would we do without sports? I’m not sure, but I do know life would be dull.

    A study commissioned by the International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI) has shown that the world toy market is constantly growing.

    By 2010 the worldwide toy sales are expected to grow to Dhs317bn ($86.4bn), an increase of 14% since 2008.

    

    Ms Elisabeth Brehl, Managing Director of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organisers of the Middle East Toy Fair, said:

    ‘In 2008, the world toy market was valued at Dhs278bn ($75.7bn), a growth of 5.3% from Dhs265bn ($72.0bn) in 2007.’

    ‘This constant growth is reflected in the Middle East Toy Fair, the region’s largest trade exhibition for toys, stationery, child and baby related products,’ she added.

    The study showed that 60% of children’s population (in the age group 0-14) were living in Asia in 2007, followed by Africa at 21%, Europe at 6%, and the rest shared by North America and Latin/South America at 4% and 9% respectively.

    Another interesting insight gleaned from recent reports is the fact that in 2008, 57% of kids aged 2-12 used video game systems (+1%) and 62% of kids used computers (+2%). Despite these gains, just as many kids are playing with toys (84%) and watching TV (94%) as they were in 2006.

    This finding augurs well for traditional toy manufacturers that traditional toys still have an attraction for the new generation of children born in the information age.

    

    Between now and 2014, the number of consumers 14 years of age and younger is expected to rise by approximately 0.8 % yearly. As children become more technically proficient at a younger age, demand is expected to rise for products that are more challenging and stimulating. IBISWorld expects that consumers will seek toys that allow them to be more interactive, thereby expanding the market for youth electronics. Growth in technologically advanced products will be evident across all segments of the toy market, particularly with learning and exploration for pre-school children.

It is an initiation rite practiced in all Tibetan-inhabited areas, but its meaning varies from place to place.     After the Tibetan girl’s rite of passage, she is eligible for marriage. One of the most important and interesting parts of a Tibetan’s life is the wedding ceremony. During the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom will kneel down in front of the groom’s parents and a photo of the Buddha while monks chant. The bride will then take her ring finger and flick milk tea three times to salute heaven, earth, and the Buddha. The wedding feast will then begin. Sometimes the groom and the bride are nearly buried beneath the large number of Hadas draped across their necks. When the ceremony is over, a party is held, at which everyone sings and dances till dawn. The wedding ceremony can be as short as one day, but frequently can be as long as ten. During the celebrations, the host will prepare sumptuous food, tea and wine for the guests, who will enjoy themselves to their hearts content.

    

    Tibetan Burial:

    The most common burial in Tibet is the Celestial Burial or Sky Burial. It is the show of Tibetans’ respect for nature and an understanding of life. Sky Burial is how commoners have been buried for centuries. A sky burial is not considered suitable for children who are less than 18, pregnant women, or those who have died of infectious disease or accident. The ritual of sky burial usually begins before dawn. The corpse is offered to the vultures which are regarded as the “Sky Dancer”, and they are believed to take the soul into the heavens, which is understood to be a windy place where souls await reincarnation into their next lives. This mystical tradition arouses curiosity among those who are not Tibetan.
